Description:
Mary Bula Holman and I took a Shibori class with Cindy Lohbeck in Houston 4or 5 years ago. That’s how long these pieces sat on the shelf while I decided on the “perfect” project. I finally decided that wasn’t happening so I’d just leave them each whole and sew them together. There was a precious bundle of red Kaffe Fassett fat quarters also waiting for a worthy idea and then how about a couple blue batiks. Sewing happily along got me remembering our hilarious experience rinsing that blue fabric back in our hotel bathtub! One of many fun times with a dear friend and best quilting buddy so I decided to name my quilt Merry,Mary Memories of Houston IQF.
I finally stopped myself from completely sewing the top together while it was in three strips so it was manageable sized pieces to machine quilt each separately first. Then joined the three pieces and added the borders.
The stack of red fabrics I pulled out from my stash for the back turned out to have several Alex Anderson designed fabrics which is so fitting because if Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims had not created the online quilting extravaganza thequiltshow.com Mary from Mississippi and I never would have met. I’m so appreciative of the wonderful group of close quilting friends and group quilt making partners from all over the USA I met through TQS! Banding together with these great friends for life has opened so many opportunities that I could never have had on my own.
