Description:
Made for my cousin Ian to celebrate his and his wife's 35th wedding anniversary. (See Berries and Blooms for Sue's quilt).
Uses fat quarters, charm squares, pieces from jelly rolls and remnants from other quilts.
I have long wanted to make a triple Irish chain, and Sue had nominated Autumn colours as Ian's preferred colours, so this seemed the perfect combination. Initially I used a random layout for the chain pieces, but that seemed too undisciplined, so I divided the colours into dark (maroons, browns, deep reds), medium (bright red and orange) and light (light orange and yellows).
Even with this, I still felt it might be 'too much', so I made the quilt double sided so Ian could use the 'night' side for a more subtle quilt. However, he seems to like the riot of autumnal colour.
