Chawne Kimber was inspired by a quote from Eartha Kitt's autobiography, Alone with Me, where she stated, "In essence, I am a sophisticated cotton picker." Chawne hand quilted the piece and feels it is a direct callback to the make-do utility quilts made by her great-grandmother on a former cotton plantation in Alabama.

Chawne's quilt was exhibited at QuiltCon in 2016.

My first words when I saw this quilt was as many before me Beautiful. But it is also complicated in such a simple way that my mind can't begin to imagine the time and the effort it took to make this symphony of color come together.
